Brisbane Book Authors (BBA) is a non-profit, social networking / information sharing group and members are traditional or Indie published authors. Group meets at 6:30pm on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, usually at Mitchelton Library. Members range from 65+ books, through to 20+, 6-10 and a few with 1 or 2. Guest speaker topics range across issues associated with being a working writer, through to topical social issues to inform character development eg. Public Speaking, Book Launches People Want to Attend, The Importance of Place, Digital Marketing; to name a few.

BBA was formed in January 2015 as a social networking avenue to support published authors. The group was created by Carolyn Martinez who was inspired by a similar group in Newcastle NSW. We currently have 22 members.

For more information or to register interest email Carolyn through the contact form on this site. New members welcomed. When sending an attendance query please include a link to your author website or details of your published book/s.

*** What members have to say about BBA: C T Mitchell ‘About a year or so ago I joined a local author group in Brisbane. There is a huge talent pool inside this group which meets monthly to discuss all things ‘books’ – or we just head to a local restaurant, have dinner, knock back a few chardies and talk gibberish. Carolyn Martinez is the Chief Chick – the ‘el honcho’ and she’s done a wonderful job of organising this group of misfits, getting in some top notch speakers and growing the group. Money Bags Davide A Cottone keeps us financial. Kylie Kayden, Deborah Disney, Debbie Terranova, Amy Andrews, Bernadette Rowley, Janet Akroyd-Stuart, Dean Blake, K M Steele are just a few of the rockstars in the group. If you’re an author ‘looking for a home’ contact Carolyn and get yourself along to a catch up. You’ll love it!’ ***

BBA members contribute $10 each meeting to secure quality guest speakers. There are no membership fees to be part of BBA. Any excess funds are used as collectively voted by members towards a Christmas function.

Meeting Etiquette

BBA meetings focus on the craft and life of writing. It is a chance for members to collectively network, share, learn, and solve problems relating to writing life post-publication.

At meetings, members:

  • Are respectful of others and their work;
  • Encourage everyone to contribute to the discussion;
  • Express criticisms or critiques in a positive and constructive manner;
  • Keep to the allocated time period when speaking;
  • Keep the discussion focussed on writing.

(Note:  BBA is a non-profit social group. Hawkeye Publishing is a sponsor of BBA).
